Preliminary reconstruction of Caernarfon Castle
Caernarfon Castle is an incredibly daunting prospect for castle reconstruction! Definitely the most complex castle site in Wales, it must also rank as one of the most complex in the whole of the United Kingdom. With its many mural passages and complicated structure, it is a long-term project to try and fully understand the intricacies of its design.
This job is made somewhat easier by the excellent plans in The Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments in Wales and Monmouthshire (Caernarvonshire Volume II: Central).
Much photo reference has already been gathered for this site but due to the complicated nature of the site, much more reference is required before a more thorough reconstruction can be attempted. The basic shape of the walls has been begun, with landscaping progressing in the inner ward.
