The Life of William Cowper, told by his friend Mrs Mary Unwin
William Cowper's life is assumed to have been one of endless depression. It was not. His letters paint a vivid picture of interesting daily life while his poetry shows a man of wit, charm and theological sensitivity. He is an aristocratic character we dare not pity. At the same time his poems speak so many things we all share that he gives the disarming appearance of everyman. His life deserves to be told not by his critics but by someone who shared the religious sensibilities which were fundamental to his character and whose affection was deep enough to bind her to Cowper most of her life, Mrs Mary Unwin.
2 hours of words and music on 2 CDs (in a DVD-sized case). Written and read by Abigail J. Fox.
